Issues

Leading Economic Recovery & Fighting for Local Jobs

Tim Schaffer has helped make Ohio the top job creator in the Midwest, and he has the proven skills to guide our region’s recovery efforts in these uncertain times.  Tim knows we need to carefully and safely get our economy moving again so Ohioans have access to reliable jobs and small business are not forced to close.  Tim has helped numerous employers and worked to bring economic development projects to the 20th district, keeping and creating hundreds of jobs.

Protecting First Responders

Tim Schaffer proudly stands with our law enforcement officers, fire fighters and other first responders who keep our communities safe.  He wrote the legislation to protect them and their families from assault and harassment by lawless thugs.

Fighting Government Corruption

Tim Schaffer is our strongest leader fighting government corruption.  As a community leader, Tim stood up to political party leaders and removed a corrupt politician from power.

As a state legislator, he wrote the laws to remove corrupt politicians from office when they steal taxpayer money, stop them from getting their hands on more taxpayer dollars, strip them of their taxpayer paid pensions and keep them in prison for the entire length of their terms.

Tim Schaffer has “zero-tolerance” for white-collar criminals in government.  He holds corrupt politicians accountable and will continue leading Ohio’s ethics reforms.

Making Public Health a Priority

Tim Schaffer helped secure critical funding for K-12 schools, libraries, veterans’ homes, crisis support centers and other vital services used in dealing with the unexpected costs of protecting public health.  Tim is committed to fighting the opiate crisis that has hurt too many of our families.  He voted to enhance addiction treatment and mental health services and is giving law enforcement the tools they need to fight back against drug dealers and cartels.

Protecting Our Families

Tim Schaffer is leading the fight against predators and human traffickers who prey on our most vulnerable citizens, our children.  He authored the laws to require mandatory prison time for sexual predators and that requires “serial exposers” to register with local authorities.  Tim secured significant funding to help police detect internet crimes against children and arrest the predators.

Cutting Taxes

Known as the “father of performance audits,” Tim wrote two laws requiring performance audits of all state government agencies and state universities so taxpayers get the best value for their tax and tuition dollars.  He defeated plans to expand sales taxes, led efforts to eliminate the estate tax, and cut personal income taxes by billions of dollars.  Tim enacted legislation that defeated the Tax Department’s plans to tax natural gas utility customers and natural resource production equipment, saving 20th district residents millions of dollars.

Veterans

Supporting our veterans has always been a top priority.  Tim Schaffer wrote the plan to provide Ohio’s service-disabled veterans with a property tax cut, helping the men and women who have sacrificed so much for our freedoms.  And he helped pass legislation that guarantees spouses of soldiers killed in action receive increased benefits and college scholarships, and he worked to exempt military active duty pay, military pensions and surviving spouse benefits from income taxes.

Investing in Our Schools and Communities

Tim Schaffer worked with local, state and federal leaders to get our communities the resources they need to get our communities the resources needed to recover.  Tim cares deeply about high quality educations and school safety.  He has voted for historic investments in public education and is committed to keeping our kids safe.
